Made by Us

The New Institute, the Netherlands’ new national institute for the creative industry, invited The Mobile City to help it develop an ongoing dialogue around the concept of smart cities between Chinese and Dutch architects, media makers and designers.

On November 7 2013 The New Institute, the Netherlands’ new national institute for the creative industry, hosts an evening (in Dutch) about using smart technologies to repurpose industrial heritage. The evening is part of the larger project Made By Us, a collaboration between The new Institute and The Mobile City, to develop an ongoing dialogue around the concept of smart cities between Chinese and Dutch architects, media makers and designers.

19.30 uur – Welkom en introductie door Renske Brinkman, Het Nieuwe Instituut.

19.40 uur – Linda Vlassenrood, International New Town Institute (INTI). “Shenzhen: van vissersdorp tot wereldstad in enkele decennia”.

20.00 uur – Ole Bouman, creative director of the 2013 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in Shenzhen. “Creating the Value Factory”.

20.20 uur – The Mobile City, curator Made By Us. Introductie project en voorlopige eerste reflectie op de vraag “Digitale media en nieuwe waardecreatie voor leegstaande fabrieken”.

20.40 uur – Interview: Niki Smit (gamestudio Monobanda). “Spel en interactie voor leegstand”.

20.55 uur – kort filmpje Sander Veenhof.

21:00 Interview: Mark van der Net (OSCity.nl). “Open data: van visualisatie naar activatie”.

Before the evening program during the day a closed meeting takes place in which three makers work on developing media interventions for the Glass Factory in Shenzhen, one the locations of the the 2013 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture.
